Weoka is a farming community located north of Wetumpka, Alabama. It's bisected by US Highway 231 and Elmore County Highway 80. Weoka's many streams and it's proximity to Lake Jordan, located on the Coosa River, offer abundant fishing. The woodlands are home to abundant wildlife, including deer, squirrels, rabbits, and wild turkeys.
The less-travelled county roads in and near Weoka are ideal for motorcycle riding. The roads are curvy enough for experienced riders to enjoy but not so curvy that inexperienced riders are intimidated. Located at the very southern end of the Appalachian Mountains, the rolling hills, combined with the curves, make for an excellent motorcycle ride. Located about 20 miles north, near Rockford, is Indian Hills Motorcycle Resort, a great place to stop and have a bite to eat and a cold drink. A popular destination for motorcycle riders throughout the southeast, Indian Hills offers the road warrior a relaxing atmosphere among other bikers. Run by bikers, for bikers, all motorcyclists are welcome. During the War for Southern Independence, many of Weoka's sons answered the call to defend their homeland against the Union invaders. Coosa County, which included Weoka until February of 1866, was strongly Confederate. Many units, including the 46th Alabama Infantry, were raised in Coosa County to defend the south from the aggressors. Many of Weoka's sons still honor their ancestor's bravery and loyalty. Confederate battleflags dot the scenery and many people are active in heritage groups. |
